Reflections - "The Good Samaritan"

By Christa Torres
Signs of spring are in the air along Michigan Avenue, as there appears to be a homeless man standing up against a large flowerpot holding new signs of spring life.

As the homeless man watches person after person walk past him and not put into his red paper cup, he looks to be disappointed that nobody acknowledges his presence.

Wearing a beige hooded pullover sweatshirt, blue vest, blue jeans, torn black shoes and black holy gloves, the older looking black homeless man watches as commuters and tourists pass by him every so often.

Finally a sign of hope emerges. An older white man walks slowly toward him and places his briefcase down next to the homeless man. Fiddles around for a moment in his khaki pants pockets and pulls out a single bill, stuffs it into his red paper cup, picks up his briefcase and continues along his commuter journey.

Much like a flower rearing its head to bloom as the first hopeful signs of spring, there is hope that there is that one Good Samaritan who will lend a helping hand.
